PSI
Definitions of psi
psi /sʌɪ, psʌɪ/ (prounounced ‘sigh’ or ‘psigh’, not 'P'-'S'-'I').
NOUN: psi; PLURAL NOUN: psis. ORIGIN: Greek.
Psi (Ψ) encompasses currently unexplained Mind Powers and Experiences
So, on this site, 'psi' means all mind powers and experiences that are not explained by known mechanisms, including:
The Big Psi Research Question: What is Mind?
We think it's the most important question that can be asked by beings, like Homo sapiens, who appear to have 'consciousness', an awareness of 'I', 'me', 'us', and can therefore ask such questions and understand the answers.
Psi & The Mind-Body Problem (a.k.a. The Hard Problem)
The Big Question, 'What is Mind?' leads to the 'Mind-Body Problem': Does my body/brain create my mind or is my mind something separate from, but connected in important ways to, my body/brain? In other words, Does mind create brain?
Definition of Paranormal
Mental and physical processes, events, effects, and forces, such as extrasensory perception or psychokinesis, which are outside the boundaries and possibilities defined by the current understanding of natural or scientific 'laws'. 'Paranormal' is a general term that covers experiences that lie outside the range of normal experience or scientific explanation. That is outside the current ability of science to explain or measure.
Definition of Phenomena (plural) / Phenomenon (singular)
Facts or situations that are observed to exist or happen, especially those whose cause or explanation is in question.
Paranormal Phenomena
Paranormal phenomena are distinct from certain hypothetical entities, such as dark matter and dark energy, in that paranormal phenomena are inconsistent with the world as already understood through empirical observation coupled with the scientific method. Billions of everyday stories of paranormal phenomena occur in popular culture, folklore, and the recollections of individuals. In contrast, the scientific community, for example, the United States National Science Foundation, maintains that scientific evidence does not support a variety of 'beliefs' that have been placed in the paranormal category.
Psi Genre
This covers everything with a connection to psi in fiction, non-fiction, and 'faction' (fiction derived from non-fiction).
Psi Phenomena Laboratory and Field Research
Generally, although there is some cross-over:
Parapsychologists study psi phenomena under controlled conditions in the laboratory;
Psychical Researchers study (more difficult to 'control') psi phenomena in the fields which are known as 'spontaneous cases'.
Note regarding UFO/UAP, ExtraTerrestrial Phenomena (ETP) and InterDimensional Phenomena (IDP)
The traditional psi phenomena categories above are increasingly being linked to:
UFO (Unidentified Flying Object now often called UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena);
ExtraTerrestrial ('aliens') phenomena—see ExtraTerrestrial Hypothesis;
InterDimensional ('inters') phenomena—see InterDimensional Hypothesis;
We have therefore added UFO/UAP, ET, and ID to the 'psi genre'.
A new language for the Psi Genre: 'SAI Team' (Spirits, Aliens, Inters)
We believe a new language is required for the the new events that appear to be occurring around the world, sometimes called 'The Phenomenon'. We have coined a term to incorporate joint/collective/cooperative communications from any group of Ex-Terrestrial Human 'Spirits', Extra-Terrestrial 'Aliens' and Interdimensional Beings, 'Inters'. That term is 'SAI Team' (Spirits, Aliens, Inters).
psi /sʌɪ, psʌɪ/ (prounounced ‘sigh’ or ‘psigh’, not 'P'-'S'-'I').
NOUN: psi; PLURAL NOUN: psis. ORIGIN: Greek.
- the twenty-third letter of the Greek alphabet ( Ψ, ψ );
- the initial letter of the Greek word for 'mind' or 'soul' – ψυχή (psyche);
- paranormal, parapsychological, or psychic faculties or phenomena: “Mind powers and experiences”;
- the twenty-third star in a constellation: “Psi Aquarii”—not relevant here
Psi (Ψ) encompasses currently unexplained Mind Powers and Experiences
So, on this site, 'psi' means all mind powers and experiences that are not explained by known mechanisms, including:
- ESP (extra-sensory perception), a group heading to include three older categories of psi phenomena – Telepathy, Clairvoyance, and Precognition – that became hard to separate and distinguish between as more research was undertaken over time (now sometimes called Remote Viewing);
- Psychokinesis-PK (aka Telekinesis);
- Psi Healing (intercessory prayer, therapeutic touch, Reiki and Johrei, and other forms of spiritual or distant healing);
- PSIE (Postmortem Survival of Identity Elsewhere), aka 'Survival of Consciousness', 'Life After Death', 'Afterlife');
- UFO (now sometimes called UAP) Phenomena.
- 'The Phenomenon' (where psi phenomena and UFO phenomena occur together and 'impossible' physical and mental events are reported by – often very credible - experiencers such as military pilots and police officers).
